With the momentum back, I moved to the next step I could make progress on which was the leading edge assembly. This required a bit of tool creation. Read until the end for a fun test fit of the complete left outboard wing section!
After nearly ten days away for Thanksgiving vacation I was able to get back the plane and start working on the wing skins. It’s nice to be back..even if a critical part seems to be missing!
Today I was able to spend some unexpected time trying to wrap up the wing skeleton. With a big vacation week away coming up, I wanted to make sure I got to a nice finishing point before heading out. See how me and the boys fared today.

After a long weekend of Volleyball tournaments, Jack and I snuck away to the hangar for a few hours after a family dinner. We were able to complete the “spar towers” in this session.
I hate leaving mistakes hanging for any length of time, so I decided to get an early morning session in and properly mount the caster wheels. Read on for details.
With most of the parts in hand, I put the boys to work in a nice evening session of drilling, assembling, and wrestling with 8020. I made one big mistake that I’ll need to fix later….can you guess what it is?
It’s finally time to get going on the wing stand. I’m probably a week or two away from needing to put the wing skeletons on there, so along with my friend Finn, we started the planning and fabrication process for the world’s most overengineered wing stand ever built…and it’s going to be awesome!
What a fun, exhausting, long and super productive day it was. Starting super early, and going until late into the evening, with help from Sam and others, we got the wing ribs primed and ready for final assembly!
